“That's not...” Shae paused, realizing that was exactly how she felt.

Derek took her in his arms. “What you’ve got to understand is that I’m different. I’m not like everyone else. I will never let you down. If you think you can love me and June…”

Shae hugged him as tight as her arms would allow. “I already love you and June.”

“I came after you, baby.” He framed her face, kissing her with all the longing in his heart. “I’ve fallen completely in love with you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”

Joy and dismay vied for preeminence as she inhaled Derek’s words like life-giving oxygen. Trailing her fingers gently over his lips, she whispered, “I almost made you lose your little girl. If you’d been married to someone other than Blair, someone normal, and my Judge Judy hadn’t presided over the hearing – I would have been the cause of you being declared an unfit parent!”

“You know that’s not true, the only reason any of that came up was because of Provo. He was feeding ideas to Blair, enabling her to spew more venom. Besides, what’s done is done.” He caressed her face, looking into her eyes, doing his best to convey every bit of love he was feeling. “I dare anyone else to ever say another harsh or harmful word to you!”

“Are you sure?” Shae wanted to believe it could be true, she wanted it so much. “You want to marry me?”

Derek went down on one knee. “More than anything.” He took her hand in his. “I don’t have a ring yet, but we’ll pick out one together.”

Shae’s head was spinning. “What about Coretta? I can’t…”

“You don’t have to worry about your grandmother,” Derek told her. “We’ll bring her with us. My house is big. We’ll renovate an entire wing just for her.”

“Really?” She wanted this so much. “You want me?”

He looked up at her with adoration in his eyes. “I want you forever, my love. Will you be my wife, Shae St. John?”

  “Yes! Oh, yes.”

“Thank God.” He rose to his feet and swept her up into his arms, carrying her to the bed like a bride on her wedding night. “Can I love you now?”

“Love me now. Love me always,” she answered huskily, staring up into his dear face.

  “Done.”

Lowering his head, Derek captured her mouth in a slow, deep, intimate kiss. Shae clung to him with everything in her. He felt warm and vital, so achingly familiar. “I missed you so.”

“I’m not giving you a chance to miss me again.” He kissed her once more, softly, tenderly – lingering – his lips clinging to hers as he laid her down and began to undress them both.

Shae helped, love for him welling up inside her. A sensual warmth made her tingle all over once they were naked and he came to her. She slid her hands up his arms to tangle in the silkiness of his dark mane. Her gaze flicked down to the whorls of dark hair covering his wide chest, following hungrily the way they tapered like an arrow across the flat abs of his stomach.

Lying next to her, Derek took her hand and pressed the back of it to his cheek. “There’s so many things I want to do with you. We’ve got our whole lives ahead of us.”

Turning to face him, she rested her palm against his face. “Do you want me to quit writing?”

“No. Unless you want to stop. Do you?”

“No, I enjoy it. I’m just afraid it will always cause…problems.” Her heart leapt as he pressed a kiss into her palm.

“Not for me. Where we’re going to live, I can guarantee no one will blink twice. And if they do…” His other hand slid over the rounded curve of her ass and squeezed.

“To hell with them,” she muttered remembering what her friend, Joyce, had told her a while back.

“Yea, exactly.” He chuckled, bending to lick her sweet nipples. “To hell with them. Besides, I can’t wait to help you with the love scenes. You can use me for all your research.” The very thought made his cock throb with anticipation.

“I already use you for inspiration.” She writhed beneath him as his hand moved between her thighs.

“Oh, really?” He slid a finger up inside of her, loving the way she tightened around him. “Tell me more.”

Shae’s body shuddered with desire as he caressed her, the breath hitching in her throat when he would swirl his fingers around her clit. “When you began work on the renovations, I started writing a story starring you.”

“Oh, I’ve got to read this.” He moved closer to her, lifting one of her thighs to rest on top of his. “I bet the love scenes are hot.”

“I think they are.” He groaned as she began to stroke his aching dick, her open mouth hot on his neck. “Not as hot as the real thing though – not even close.”

Derek was on fire. The duality of needing to sate himself with this woman and feeling his heart ache with love for her, was like nothing he could’ve imagined. “I make you hot?”

“God, yes, Derek!” His name sounded like a prayer on her lips as she tugged him down on top of her, spreading her thighs in welcome. “I need you so much,” she whispered, as she wrapped herself around him, her hand slipping down to guide his cock between her folds, tucking the broad head into her eager opening.

When she rolled her hips forward and he sank deep, the hot glove of her femininity massaged his cock so perfectly, his eyes rolled back into his head. All he could do was give in to the impulse, his hips pumping out of control.

Shae was shaking, kissing and licking his neck as he drove up inside of her again and again. Derek was laboring to breathe, endeavoring to control the pressure building in his balls. Keeping his focus was hard when his cock was in heaven, being squeezed and hugged by a clenching velvet vise. Especially while the woman making him feel so good made the sexiest sounds in the universe as she rubbed her breasts over his chest. “Is this what you need, baby?” he asked as his hands found the quivering globes, his fingers caressing her nipples with reverence.

“Yes, please!” she gasped, her head falling back, exposing the curve of her creamy neck to his lips as she began to spasm around him, her hips writhing and pumping.

Hearing and feeling her ecstasy, his cock throbbed within her, becoming even harder. “I’ve got you, baby. I’ve got you.” Kissing her face feverishly, Derek gave himself over to the pleasure, heaving and thrusting within her as everything below his waist tensed to the breaking point.

“Shae!” he bellowed as he exploded, the most intense climax of his life rushing up his swollen shaft, bursting forth in hot pulses of bliss. Burying his face in her neck, he pumped into her helplessly as she clung to him, working her hips, milking every drop of passion from him she could.

“Perfect, you’re perfect.” She stroked his hair, loving how he rested against her, his body slack. Every few seconds, she could feel a slight tremor as aftershocks of their loving vibrated through him.

As his breathing eased, Derek attempted to move off her. “I’m crushing you.”

“No.” She held him tighter. “Don’t move. I want to hold you just a little while. I want this moment to last forever.”

“I’m not going anywhere.” He only shifted slightly, leaning his weight on one arm so he could drop kisses on her face and neck. “I’m right where I want to be, beautiful.”

“You make me blush,” she muttered as she felt the afterglow of love rising on her cheeks.

“You are, baby.” He looked into her eyes. “And not just on the outside, you’re beautiful on the inside. The kind of beauty that shines bright, putting the welfare of others before your own. Even though I loved you completely before I knew, I’ll never forget that you risked your own life to save my child’s.”

“Derek, please…” She put her fingers over his lips.

He caught her hand, kissing the palm. “Let me have my say, then you can have yours.” He smiled at her tenderly, loving how she stared up at him like he hung the moon. “I talked to your friend Cathy at the park. I didn’t get there in time to hear her speech, but I know about your fri
endship with Jo Powers, I know what you did for this town.”

“I just convinced Coretta to sell land she didn’t need anyway.”

“Oh, I think you did more than that.” He rubbed his lips over the silk of her cheek. “You’re so tenderhearted, you wouldn’t give up until you orchestrated a happy ending for everybody.”

Shae shook her head. “I’m glad I could help, but don’t paint me as something I’m not. I am so ready to close this chapter in my life. The only role I want to play is the one opposite you. You’re the hero and I’m the heroine. I’m not interested in prolonging this drama, all I want is a lifetime of adventures with you…just a love story.”

Derek traced the shape of a heart right over the place where he could feel hers beating. “Oh, this isn’t just a love story, Shae, this is our love story - and it’s only just begun.”
